Ocean Waves {a finished quilt}

Hello, and Welcome to my new blog!
 Thanks for joining me here!

 Today I'm excited to show off the quilt I've been working on for my daughter's new bedroom.

 If you remember right, this was my initial fabric pull.
She wanted the colors of the ocean with a little Hawaii thrown in.

Here's what we came up with.
Her new room will double as the guest room, so she get's a queen-sized bed.  I chose this simple shoo-fly block for it's ease (read: speed) in sewing and it's bold design. (The thought of sewing a million little pieces for a queen-sized quilt made me cringe a bit.)

 My daughter is super happy with how it turned out, as am I.

The back is a cool piece I found at JoAnn's.  It became the starting point for the quilt.  In the interest of saving some money I only bought 4 (maybe 4.5?) yards of it and pieced in my extra blocks to make it wide enough.

For the binding I went with this perfectly suited turquoise and lime polka dot.
Thank you Denyse Schmidt!

Now that it's done we are counting down the weeks (days) until our basement gets finished and my daughter can be in her new room!!  Until then, the quilt has taken a up temporary residence on my bed.

It's amazing! So beautiful. The backing fabric goes so well with the top and I love your thrifty nature and the backing solution. So good all around!

Amazing, Em! I wish that were one of my talents! :) I sew other stuff but I am not sure "queen-sized" will ever describe any of it! :)
